about

Trouble was the first song co-written with Benji Rogers (Marwood) in New York City. The two went on to write several other songs and tour England, Ireland and Scotland with Ari Hest in 2006. The song was re-opened and added to by Ted Russell Kamp in 2018.

Trouble is the tale of one woman's story with a love interest that is no good and not the happily ever after, but that's OK. She's confident enough to handle that and frankly, the game is more fun than the ending.

It's loosely based on a former flame who defined that kind of trouble and who LOVED to play games. There were a lot of late nights in NYC bars back then. You met folks like this all the time, especially around last call, on both sides of the relationship. Benji was a bartender and Emily had bartended before, so the stories were familiar and writing the song came very quickly.

lyrics

See the way your hair gets away in the wind.
Across your face and out of place again.
Can’t get it off my mind.
Come in closer. What am I to find?

Don’t feed me that line, your game’s as good as mine.
It’s never gonna be straight up, you know it.
Something’s gotta give, something’s got to change
and you know it.

I can’t find my way out of this situation.
And I don’t mind a little bit of complication.
Baby, I like the Trouble.

If love was easy, wouldn’t you walk away?
This mystery I see just fills me in more every day.
And this ain’t no puzzle you can crack or monkey on your back.
Just you and me baby trying to find a way.

I’ll feed you the lines, but I won’ t leave you behind.
It’s never gonna be straight up, you know it.
Someone’s gotta give, someone’s got to change
and you know it.

I can’t find my way out of this situation.
And I don’t mind a little bit of complication.
Baby, I like the Trouble.

Don’t feed me that line, your game’s as good as mine
It’s never gonna be straight up, you know it.
Something’s gotta give, something’s got to change
and you know it.

I can’t find my way out of this situation.
And I don’t mind a little bit of complication.
You want it easy, but me I like the struggle,
and I’m not asking…
Baby, I like the Trouble.
